Development 101 Workshop: Steps to Zoning, Platting, Building Permits & Inspections and a Deeper Dive into Urban Forestry – March 24

March 24 | 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

@ New Fort Worth City Hall

Join the City of Fort Worth for an in-depth and interactive Development 101 workshop focused on the policies and processes that shape how our city grows.

This free afternoon program is designed for developers, engineers, neighborhood leaders, and anyone interested in understanding how projects move from concept to construction. Through real-world examples and direct conversation with City staff, participants will gain practical insight into navigating city requirements with greater confidence.

Over the course of four engaging hours, City staff and subject-matter experts will walk through key stages of the development process, share best practices, and answer your questions. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a clearer roadmap for moving projects forward, avoiding common delays and staying aligned with current regulations.

This Development 101 program will focus on four core areas:

Zoning and Planning. Learn how zoning regulations and planning policies guide development across Fort Worth. This segment will cover how zoning decisions are made, how planning frameworks support long-term growth and what to consider early to ensure your project aligns with city goals.

Building Permits and Inspections. Understand the permitting and inspection process from start to finish. City staff will outline what’s required, how departments coordinate and how to prepare complete submittals that keep projects moving efficiently.

Urban Forestry: A Deeper Dive. Explore Fort Worth’s urban forestry requirements and why they matter. This segment will provide a closer look at tree preservation, mitigation and compliance expectations, along with practical guidance for incorporating urban forestry considerations into project planning.

Navigating the Process Successfully. Throughout the program, speakers will highlight common challenges, coordination tips and lessons learned to help participants better anticipate next steps and reduce friction along the way.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or simply curious about how Fort Worth develops, this workshop offers valuable insight and direct access to the City experts who help guide projects every day. A stronger understanding of these topics can lead to smoother approvals, better collaboration and more successful outcomes for projects across our community.
